About this deal

The steelbooks themselfs are gorgeous and I love the art on them and the season theme cutout on the inside. but I like it because they use the phrase “eye-popping” and who doesn’t like hearing that when you’re talking about entertainment media on the 4K UHD Disc format. Also just to let you see what’s inside so to speak here’s a quick look at what every single disc in this set looks like. While it’s not the most aggressive HDR upgrade I’ve ever seen, it’s definitely one of the most effective and sensitive.

So I feel reasonably well qualified to say that the step up in picture quality delivered by this 4K Blu-ray release goes way further than I’d imagined possible. Color Reproduction: Compared to the 1080p Blu-ray Disc the colors here appear wider thanks in part to the 4K’s Wide Color Gamut resulting in both more natural, lifelike colors as well as bold ones too.The package is nowhere near as elaborate as the deluxe Blu-ray set, but it’s sturdy, handsome, and it doesn’t take up a lot of room on your shelf. Home Entertainment have officially announced that they will release on 4K Blu-ray Game of Thrones: The Complete Collection. Remember up above I mentioned the Episode Guide lists all the extras and breaks them down by what disc they can be found on? strategies" in terms of holding multiple discs, with some cases offering discs stacked on top of each other, and others offering separate hinged holders.

With respect to PC or console-embedded players, they’ll do OK, but they lack the dedicated processing power to show just how nuanced the amazing job the team did on this Blu-ray collection is. The sound is phenomenal but form what I have read is the same Dolby Atmos soundtrack that’s on the Blu-Ray edition. With HBO Max taking the step, it’s now possible its UK broadcast partner Sky might offer access to the advanced versions via Sky Q or Sky Glass.

There’s just an overwhelming sense of immersion throughout even in the CGI moments like when Daenerys is looking over a cliff at a sea of ships. In fact, I’d say the 4K Blu-ray release has arrived after just the right time to make revisiting the opening series feel completely fresh again. Only time will tell until the jury is out on that, but I regret to inform you that as beautiful as things look here on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc it doesn’t change the lackluster, unimaginative ending employed in Season 8. HDCAM SR has an HQ recording mode that provides an 880 Mbps video data rate with low compression, so the detail visible in the Ultra HD image is improved a bit; it’s rock solid, tighter-looking, and much less noisy than the previous Blu-ray presentation. Editorial independence means being able to give an unbiased verdict about a product or company, with the avoidance of conflicts of interest.

As a little shout out I also love how intricate the tiles crumbling in the shows opening credits sound. mixes are very good but their Atmos ones really do elevate it - it does seem to really expand the sound stage.

At which point I should say that while the increase in apparent detail is remarkable, the application of HDR to the picture has an even bigger impact. Got response from viewer relations who've said that the UHD episodes were made available by mistake. It doesn’t sound like a mere television show, but rather the action sequences make this feel like a bombastic, summer blockbuster when fully engaged. In fact, the extras here seem to be identical to those found on HBO’s recent Game of Thrones: The Complete Collection Blu-ray set—the deluxe version that came in gorgeous window box packaging. There’s nice detail in the mix; lots of little sound cues move around the soundstage with a precision that’s just not there in the previous DTS-HD mix on Blu-ray. The picture creates a great atmosphere, from the frozen wastelands of the North to the southern deserts and the Atmos soundtrack does a great job of just 'being there', without distracting.
