About this deal

Robyn explained that she always wanted Whitney to perform “A song for you”, but Whitney didn’t feel she was ready as she was too young and inexperienced. Viewed from the outside, the confusing thing about all this is that, for much of the time, the relationship appeared to be starkly uneven. I didn’t have Whitney Houston on my resumé but at work, sometimes, people would say, ‘You used to work with Whitney, how was that? There’s no use in speculating about someone’s sexuality from the grave, but Robyn’s story surely feels like the “I fell for a straight girl” narrative, except over several decades as opposed to the usual semester in high school/college.

Had this been today, Whitney would be alive and no doubt living her life with Robyn as there are a lot of entertainers today who are openly gay/bisexual and no-one bats an eyelid. She didn't bad mouth a soul, not one and I'm sure she had more to say about people who mistreated her. It sounded INCREDIBLE and Whitney never sang it again until she put it on her last and final album, I look to you, in 2009.The decision Crawford made to resign her position working for Houston was rough, she had spent all her adult life with working with and for Whitney. I've acted out my life on stages with ten thousand people watching," go the lyrics, "but we're alone, yeah, and I'm singing this song for you.

Strangely enough, Crawford’s loving yet honest portrayal of her friend cured me of feeling sorry for Houston, which I’ve done for years. Robyn Crawford has been this mysterious woman that we’ve all seen by Whitney’s side from the very beginning of Whitney’s music career.

I had heard the name Robyn Crawford associated with Whitney Houston, mainly for the close and often controversial friendship the two women shared. Immediately following the wedding the couple became tabloid fodder with their very public fights and drama, and Houston's use of substance escalated. I can’t imagine how brave it was to put it all in words, but I’m confident it is going to bring her the peace she deserves. Despite our understanding of what religion might say about our love, neither of us expressed any guilt or judgment; we were immersed in getting to know each other. They should live the rest of lives in shame because Whitney and Bobbi Kristina’s blood is on their hands.
