About this deal

Then her father dies and his wealth disappears, and Sara has to learn to cope with her changed circumstances. However, her most famous work is "A Little Princess," which tells the story of a young girl named Sara Crewe who faces adversity with courage and kindness. I was convinced that I had read this as a child, and in fact I did have a copy of the book – one of those Parragon Children’s Classics with no illustrations. A timeless Cinderella story, A Little Princess is one of the best-loved children's classics of all time.

To distract his master from his own sorrows, he tells Mr Carrisford about the "little girl in the attic.

Dies Differently in Adaptation: Captain Crewe, instead of dying of now-disproven brain fever, catches pneumonia on his way back to India.

This handsome Word Cloud edition of the classic children’s novel includes black-and-white illustrations by Ethel Franklin Betts and a heat-burnished cover with foil stamping, making it a wonderful addition to the bookshelf. The 1962 book The Wolves of Willoughby Chase by Joan Aiken follows a similar plot, although against a very different backdrop. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Sara now slept in an unheated attic, wore clothes that were too small for her, was out running errands in all weather and was given little food to eat. The cook wastes no time mistreating Sara, rubbing in her former status frequently and denying her dinner after Sara fails to obtain parsley.Since the 'Indian Gentleman' is not even sure which city, if not country the little girl was sent to school in (he sends his solicitor to Paris, then to Moscow, on the basis of vaguely similar names and backgrounds), it's somewhat serendipitous that he happens to move in next door from the right girl. Similarly to the 1978 adaptation, this version focuses more on the saddest aspects of the story and on the bullying, although in a more mildly and less violent way. Little Sara Crewe isn't really a princess, but she's got the most wonderful imagination that I know no one in real life can have. Because the Indian climate is considered too harsh for their children, British families living there traditionally send their children to boarding school back home in England.
